Asphalt shingle dominates Central Texas residential roofing for practical reasons: it handles hail relatively well, costs less than metal or tile, installs faster, comes in enough color/texture variety to match any HOA aesthetic, and has a 20–30 year expected life with modern architectural designs.

We primarily install two lines. GAF Timberline HDZ is a dimensional architectural shingle with StainGuard Plus algae protection and a lifetime limited warranty when installed by a GAF-certified contractor (which we are). Owens Corning Duration is similar — architectural dimensional profile, SureNail fastening strip for wind resistance, and lifetime limited warranty when installed by an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor (which we are).

Both lines handle Central Texas hail and wind reasonably well. Both come in 15+ color options. Installation cost is similar. We recommend based on specific home conditions, HOA requirements, and color match — not on which manufacturer kickback is higher (there aren't kickbacks, for what it's worth).
